The City of Rowlett is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Water Quality & Grease Interceptor Inspector to join our team. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health, preserving water quality, ensuring environmental compliance, and maintaining the quality of life for our residents.
What You'll Do:
As a Water Quality & Grease Interceptor Inspector, you'll work both independently and collaboratively to:
- Conduct inspections of grease interceptors, grit traps, liquid waste haulers, and other regulated facilities.
- Investigate and respond to citizen complaints and environmental concerns.
- Perform inspections related to stormwater quality, detention ponds, construction sites, and illicit discharges.
- Assist with environmental compliance, public education, and enforcement activities.
- Support MS4 and SWP3 compliance programs.
- Conduct property maintenance and code compliance inspections, including nuisance violations, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, high grass and weeds, and related ordinance enforcement.
- Gather evidence, document findings, issue notices, and educate residents and businesses on compliance requirements.
- Assist with environmental investigations, reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Work closely with Engineering, Neighborhood Services, and other City departments to support community initiatives and regulatory compliance.
What We're Looking For:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in water quality, environmental health, code enforcement, or a related field.
- Texas Registered Code Enforcement Officer certification preferred, or the ability to obtain it within six (6) months of hire.
- Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations, inspections, and compliance programs is preferred.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Work Environment
This position works both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, environmental hazards, and field inspection environments. Occasional after-hours, weekend, holiday, and on-call work may be required.
