Now Hiring: Traffic & Transportation Manager - 4 DAY WORKWEEK!
City of Rowlett, TX
If you’ve ever driven through a well-timed signal, a smooth roadway, or a construction zone that just makes sense—that’s not luck. That’s great infrastructure leadership.
We’re looking for a Traffic & Transportation Manager who knows how to keep a city moving—safely, efficiently, and strategically.
What You’ll Own: You’ll lead the crews and operations behind the scenes that keep Rowlett running day-to-day:
- Oversee streets, drainage, signals, signage, and markings.
- Manage and develop field teams (and make sure they have the tools + training to succeed).
- Coordinate with regional partners like DART, NTTA, and NCTCOG.
- Review plans, attend pre construction meetings, and stay ahead of future infrastructure needs.
- Ensure all work aligns with TMUTCD and IMSA standards.
- Track projects, budgets, and performance in the City’s asset management system.
- Respond to citizen concerns and keep safety front and center.
- Support emergency response planning when it matters most.
Why Rowlett: Rowlett is growing—and doing it intentionally. This isn’t a “keep the lights on” role.
- Major infrastructure projects tied to DART expansion and regional mobility.
- A city that is actively investing in roads, drainage, and long-term planning.
- High visibility + real impact—you’ll see the results of your work across the community.
- A collaborative leadership team that values operational expertise.
- The opportunity to help shape how a fast-growing city moves for the next decade.
What You Bring:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in streets, drainage, and traffic infrastructure.
- 3+ years leading crews or supervising field operations.
- Strong working knowledge of traffic control standards (TMUTCD / IMSA preferred).
- Ability to read plans, manage projects, and keep multiple priorities moving.
- A leadership style that balances accountability, safety, and team development.
The Reality of the Role:
This is a
roll-up-your-sleeves leadership position—not a desk-only job. You’ll be in the field, in meetings, and occasionally on-call for emergencies, nights, or weekends.
Why This Role Matters:
You’re not just maintaining roads—you’re shaping how an entire community moves, grows, and connects.
