Do you enjoy solving complex challenges, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and helping communities grow in thoughtful and innovative ways? The City of Rowlett is looking for a Planner II to play a key role in shaping the future of our community through development review, long-range planning, and strategic projects.

In this role, you'll work on everything from zoning cases and development proposals to special planning initiatives that help guide Rowlett's growth. You'll collaborate with residents, developers, architects, engineers, elected officials, and City staff to ensure development aligns with the community's vision.

What You'll Do:
As a Planner II, you'll:
  • Review and process zoning, site plan, and development applications from submission to approval.
  • Partner with internal departments and external stakeholders to evaluate development proposals.
  • Prepare staff reports, presentations, maps, graphics, ordinances, and recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Research zoning regulations, land use issues, development trends, and planning best practices.
  • Assist residents, property owners, developers, and businesses with planning and zoning questions.
  • Participate in long-range planning efforts, special studies, and community development projects.
  • Analyze data and community concerns to identify solutions and make informed recommendations.
  • Help ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Support Planning and Zoning Commission meetings and other public engagement activities.

What We're Looking For:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field and at least three years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree in Planning or a related field and at least two years of relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Understanding of planning principles, zoning, land use, and community development.
  • Experience analyzing data and conducting research to support planning recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and mapping tools.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, elected officials, residents, and development professionals.
  • Passion for creating great places and helping communities thrive.
