What You’ll Do:
As a Crew Leader, you’ll take ownership of daily field operations, leading a team responsible for the construction, repair, and maintenance of the City’s water, wastewater, and drainage systems.
You will:
- Lead, coordinate, and support a small, high-performing crew in the field.
- Plan and execute projects involving water lines, sewer systems, drainage infrastructure, and surface restoration (concrete/asphalt).
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and materials are safe, functional, and job-ready.
- Perform and oversee hands-on work including system repairs, grading, and site setup.
- Operate and guide the use of heavy equipment, hand tools, and power tools (jackhammers, saws, compressors, etc.).
- Read grades and assist with layout and staking for projects.
- Train and develop team members in water/wastewater maintenance operations.
- Maintain work orders, service requests, and operational records.
- Monitor inventory and initiate purchase requests for materials and equipment.
- Enforce safety standards, department policies, and operational procedures.
This is a working leadership role—you’ll be leading from the front, not the sidelines.
What You Bring (Minimum Requirements):
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of experience in water/wastewater construction, maintenance, or repair.
- At least 3 years of lead or crew leadership experience.
- Working knowledge of:
- Water and wastewater systems.
- Concrete and asphalt repair.
- Field safety practices and signage.
- Ability to:
- Lead crews, assign work, and ensure accountability.
- Operate heavy equipment and tools safely and effectively.
- Read and interpret technical instructions and field data.
- Communicate clearly with team members, other departments, and the public.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Texas Class A CDL (or ability to obtain).
- Tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- Class C Water Distribution License (TCEQ).
- Class II Wastewater Collection License (TCEQ).
- (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Clean driving record in accordance with City standards.

- Strong troubleshooting skills in field conditions.

- Experience managing multiple projects or work orders simultaneously.
What to Expect:
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Exposure to typical utility work environments (dust, noise, confined spaces, equipment hazards).
- Physical demands including:
- Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Pulling/pushing up to 100 lbs.
- Standing, bending, and working in the field for extended periods.
- On-call responsibilities for emergency response.
- Occasional evening and weekend work.
