As a Deputy Fire Marshal, you won’t just respond to incidents—you’ll help prevent them, investigate them, and protect your community at every level.
What You’ll Be Doing: This role blends investigation, prevention, leadership, and public service:
- Lead fire origin & arson investigations.
- Enforce fire codes through inspections (commercial + residential).
- Review building plans for fire/life safety compliance.
- Collect evidence, interview witnesses, and testify in court.
- Conduct internal investigations & background checks.
- Partner with law enforcement, attorneys, and community agencies.
- Educate the public on fire prevention and safety.
- Support emergency management and Fire Marshal operations.
- Train and mentor investigative and inspection personnel.
What We’re Looking For: You’re not just experienced—you’re sharp, steady under pressure, and mission-driven:
- Associate’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years in fire service or law enforcement.
- 5+ years as a Fire Inspector or Arson Investigator.
- Strong knowledge of fire codes, investigation techniques, and legal processes.
- Ability to lead investigations, manage evidence, and communicate findings clearly.
- Proven ability to work across agencies and with the public.
Required Certifications:
- Intermediate Fire Inspector.
- Intermediate Arson Investigator.
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Intermediate Peace Officer (or higher).
- Valid Driver’s License (Class B preferred).
Preferred:
- Professional Standards Investigator experience.
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection Intermediate Firefighter.
- Ability to obtain Basic Fire Marshal Certification within 1 year.
